I think we walked the entire city of Rome yesterday (Sunday). My pedomter/bodybugg recorded almost 30,000 steps (not including my 2.25 mile run). We were TIRED but we saw A LOT of stuff.
We toured St. Peter's Basilica & Square (including the 1100 steps up & down the cupola), the Vatican Museum (along with 1.2 million other tourists/nationals since it was free tour Sunday), the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, several other archeological sites, and the not-Spanish-steps of the Pialazzo delle Esposizioni (TJ thought that building was the Spanish Steps on the map, but it turned out to be a museum. We also walked by/around the Foro Traiano, the Monumento a Vittoria Emanuele II, the Mercati Traianei and Piazza della Republica.
Our biggest find was the grocery store where we bought cheese, crackers and wine to enjoy on our balcony when we finally got home (after a very crowded bus ride back to our hotel). TJ had to McGuyver the corkscrew to open the wine, but it was a nice way to end the day once he got it open.
Now we're heading out to tour the Coliseum, the Roman Forum, the Circus Maximus and whatever else TJ drags me to (now that he's in charge of the map, he gets to decide what we see).
More later, if I don't pass out from the heat.
Ciao!
